Fic-in-a-Box Letter 2022
Okay, so, uh… this letter is very delayed. Sorry about that. If you’ve already got started and don’t want my ramblings to derail you, feel free to ignore it; however, if you’re looking for more guidance, hopefully this will help!
Some sections have more detailed thoughts than others; this is not reflective of how much I want any particular thing. I asked for them all bc I want them all!
If you’re looking for guidance on the mediums I regret to inform you that I am no thoughts head empty for them and have not elaborated on what I want except for here, where my thoughts are that I think they’re neat and would be cool with the fandoms I paired them with. If you have an idea you want to do for one of my fandoms in a medium I didn’t request, feel free to make it for me as a treat :3

Mother of Learning is a fandom I keep coming back to; I love the way the story unfolds, and I love the characters, many of whom we see different aspects of as Zorian interacts with them differently—I’ve requested a lot of characters here, but not Zorian himself. I like them, I think the world is cool, and I want more things that happen outside of Zorian’s head.

I've pictured the Kazinski kids as light-skinned; I don't have a fixed mental image of Tinami in that regard. I also don’t remember if any of Taiven’s appearance is described, bar her being shapely and beautiful; I tend to picture her with long straight-ish brown hair. I’m really not all that attached to these, but am providing them in case you look at this long-ass novel with minimal character descriptions and don’t know where to start with your art lmao. Feel free to go with these or with anything that catches your fancy.

hi hello i really love Kirielle Kazinski, if you couldn't tell. whatever you might give me about her, i will love you forever for it.
If you want to focus on Kirielle’s relationship with someone else, for Kirielle and Zorian, I love their dynamic! And I’d really enjoy seeing their relationship developing in real time, rather than a constantly looping world. I think it would be great to see either of them defending the other to their parents—and maybe Zorian ends up with custody of Kiri, there’s definitely things to explore there. For Kirielle and Nochka, they’re adorable and I’d love a further development of their friendship, especially getting to see it grow and develop over the months and years after the invasion. If you want to write about Kiri and Zach, these two seem to have a lot of fun teaming up against Zorian lol, I really enjoy their dynamic and how they play off each other. Or you could go with someone else entirely!
I’d also be here for any sort of solo story about/character study of Kiri, really, but I’m gonna prompt a few specific things anyway.
• She grows up a little, and becomes a student mage—what’s that like for her, especially having received Zorian’s tutelage?
• She grows up a little, and doesn’t seriously pursue magic—does she devote herself more seriously to art? Do something else? Get away from her parents, and get to just be a kid for a little longer than her siblings?
• By some mechanism, Kirielle gets pulled into the time loop, whether with Zorian, instead of him, or in some utterly unrelated incident. What’s it like to grow older and older in life experience while your body remains stubbornly nine? How does this change the story? If you go this route I’d rather looper!Kiri not be erased in the timeline of the fic—ending the fic before it becomes an issue or letting her escape back to the real world are what I’d rather see.
• For some reason—there’s actually a fair amount that’d have to change here, but shhh this is my ridiculous self-indulgent prompt—Kirielle is the Controller. How does she react to being in a looping world, with no one else looping she can possibly compare notes with? What does she do with her time? Why did the angels choose her? How does this impact canon—is Jornak even a problem, does the whole Sovereign Gate affair pass much as it was meant to rather than the debacle that became of it in canon?

We only get a little bit of information about the Sashal family in canon, but I’d love anything you have to write on them! They seem to have an eventful backstory—frankly, so do most of the characters in this story—and I’d love to see some of that, or some of how they deal with the fallout of the invasion! What comes next for them?
Of all the Kazinski siblings, we see Fortov the least, and we know that Zorian doesn’t like him much at all, but it’s also pretty clear that Zorian isn’t a totally reliable narrator when it comes to Fortov. So tell me about him! What’s it like to be Fortov Kazinski, generally charismatic middle child and sometimes-definitely-a-dick who isn’t a total overachiever in any field?
If you want specific prompts, consider elaborating on what exactly happened between him and Ibery that she always ended up in the purple creeper patch.
Like the Sashal family, she also seems to be someone who's got an interesting story going on that has nothing whatsoever to do with the main drama; I'd love to see something exploring that! She's initially presented as not a very serious person by Zorian's perspective, but when we actually see her there's more to her than that--tell me about her!
Or maybe a story about one of those loops when Zach told her he was a time traveler and they went exploring together?
I like Raynie a lot; we don’t get a whole lot on her, but what we do get paints her as someone who’s having a very interesting life of her own, utterly divorced from the timeloop shenanigans (except re: the shifter children thing). I like her and Kiana’s friendship, too; I like how when we finally see more of them both we learn more about how they’re similar and different.
(I do also like Kiana! But I have less to say about her individually.)
If you want to go pre-canon I’d really love something with Raynie initially going to Cyoria and how she befriended Kiana in the first place (or, perhaps more likely, how Kiana befriended her; I somehow doubt that Raynie age 13, recently semi-exiled from her tribe, was particularly in search of outsider friends).
For post-canon, really, anything dealing with the fallout of all the things that go down in the real world would be fantastic too. Maybe Kiana realizes at some point the ways in which she’s improved from coming with Raynie to Zorian’s study sessions?
I’d love any sort of exploration of Taiven as a character—she’s a lot of things, many of them seeming a little contradictory. She’s a cheerful fighty-type character; she’s pretty; she’s kind of socially inept; she’s insecure; she’s actually quite young, though Zorian doesn’t see her as such. So tell me about her, and how these pieces fit together to make her who she is!
If you’re looking for specific prompts it would be fun to see how her and Zorian’s friendship used to be, in years past, though if you do that please don’t go into too much detail for the time he asked her out; I’m not sure I could handle the secondhand embarrassment lmao.
These two have a really fun dynamic and I would love to see something further exploring that--in the real world, maybe, where it can progress into something longer-term than a month allows? How does Tinami feel about the aranea, once she knows them as beings instead of myths?
We don’t see a lot of how people who aren’t mages and aren’t going so far that they need a train get around, other than on foot; that can’t be the only way. Tell me about the other options!
This one is a bit… potentially tricky to write about, due to the real-world parallels inherent to the setup, but if you want to go for it I would be interested in an exploration of how the shifter tribes relate to Eldemar and to each other, and how Eldemar being a player impacts their relationships to each other.

Most of these have very fun enemy/frenemy dynamics baked in; I particularly like stories that deal in the ambiguity of having a relationship with someone you’re opposed to that may or may not be as antagonistic as your respective roles would imply. The time-travel ones have the added aspect of one of the characters knowing what may yet come to pass, and the other not; this surely influences the dynamic in a variety of interesting ways. For the kid breaking their parent out, it’s a sort of role reversal (parents are usually the ones looking after children, not the other way around, after all) that I also thing would be a lot of fun!

I love dragons lmao, (almost) any kind of dragons! What are they like? I do prefer that they not be... mindlessly hostile, I suppose; they don't need to be friendly, and they don't need to talk or think like people do, but I would prefer them to not simply treat humans as attack-on-sight, you know?
As for visual design, I have yet to meet a dragon design I didn't like--wings? no wings? two, four, six, more limbs? feel free to get weird here if you want!
These tags give me the impression that the dragons are pretty big, but if you want to make them small instead I'm sure it'll be great!

These just seem… like fun? Like the exchange mod & pinch hitter are a fun mix of real-world and the mythological; the witch & familiar & mentor is the same sort of role-reversal as the child supervillain breaking their parent out, but with the added character of the familiar, and I think that’s a fun dynamic to explore!

first of all: the only part of Friends at the Table that I have actually listened to is the little Fall of Magic series; as the characters I have requested are from that game I do not expect this to be a problem but i thought it should be said.
secondly... I love this game. I love how weird and ephemeral and overtly magical it is, how that magic manifests in different ways in different places but is still very much present even as it's dying. The sense of melancholy, of an old magical world and a changing new one, pervades the game and it's a tone I sort of fell in love with.
They also describe a lot of very enchanting visuals; if you want to illustrate some of those as a comic you can put the focus wherever you want so long as you include something or someone I requested. I just would like more of this world, and the people who live in it through its changes.

A lot of these characters are ambiguous and old in a way a lot of elements of the story are, and I would love to see something that explores that. Fawn and Caspian have histories that stretch back long years; they both used to be very different people. The Magus and Harp are old, too, but they don’t seem to have changed as much—but still they have Existed in the world as it has lived through this age of magic.
Piccolo, otoh, is young; and he’s the one who continues the most as he was, into the new world, with the magic still present but irrevocably changed… how does that go, for him?
And for the anchors… idk I just thought that was a really cool concept, anything you want to explore with that I’d love to see.

For that matter, what relationship do Morgan and Marielle have; what does Marielle do in her day-to-day? Does Alistair’s family know about his job, and what do they think about it? We know that Alistair had a mentor back in the day—what did that mentorship look like?

Of all the Kazinski siblings, we see Fortov the least, and we know that Zorian doesn’t like him much at all, but it’s also pretty clear that Zorian isn’t a totally reliable narrator when it comes to Fortov. So tell me about him! What’s it like to be Fortov Kazinski, generally charismatic middle child and sometimes-definitely-a-dick who isn’t a total overachiever in any field?
If you want specific prompts, consider elaborating on what exactly happened between him and Ibery that she always ended up in the purple creeper patch.
Solo: Neoluma-Manu Iljatir
Like the Sashal family, she also seems to be someone who's got an interesting story going on that has nothing whatsoever to do with the main drama; I'd love to see something exploring that! She's initially presented as not a very serious person by Zorian's perspective, but when we actually see her there's more to her than that--tell me about her!
Or maybe a story about one of those loops when Zach told her he was a time traveler and they went exploring together?
Solo: Raynie, Kiana & Raynie
I like Raynie a lot; we don’t get a whole lot on her, but what we do get paints her as someone who’s having a very interesting life of her own, utterly divorced from the timeloop shenanigans (except re: the shifter children thing). I like her and Kiana’s friendship, too; I like how when we finally see more of them both we learn more about how they’re similar and different.
(I do also like Kiana! But I have less to say about her individually.)
If you want to go pre-canon I’d really love something with Raynie initially going to Cyoria and how she befriended Kiana in the first place (or, perhaps more likely, how Kiana befriended her; I somehow doubt that Raynie age 13, recently semi-exiled from her tribe, was particularly in search of outsider friends).
For post-canon, really, anything dealing with the fallout of all the things that go down in the real world would be fantastic too. Maybe Kiana realizes at some point the ways in which she’s improved from coming with Raynie to Zorian’s study sessions?
Solo: Taiven
I’d love any sort of exploration of Taiven as a character—she’s a lot of things, many of them seeming a little contradictory. She’s a cheerful fighty-type character; she’s pretty; she’s kind of socially inept; she’s insecure; she’s actually quite young, though Zorian doesn’t see her as such. So tell me about her, and how these pieces fit together to make her who she is!
If you’re looking for specific prompts it would be fun to see how her and Zorian’s friendship used to be, in years past, though if you do that please don’t go into too much detail for the time he asked her out; I’m not sure I could handle the secondhand embarrassment lmao.
Enthusiastic Seeker of Novelty & Tinami Aope
These two have a really fun dynamic and I would love to see something further exploring that--in the real world, maybe, where it can progress into something longer-term than a month allows? How does Tinami feel about the aranea, once she knows them as beings instead of myths?
WB: Land Transportation Other Than Trains and Teleporting
We don’t see a lot of how people who aren’t mages and aren’t going so far that they need a train get around, other than on foot; that can’t be the only way. Tell me about the other options!
WB: Shifter Politics in Eldemar
This one is a bit… potentially tricky to write about, due to the real-world parallels inherent to the setup, but if you want to go for it I would be interested in an exploration of how the shifter tribes relate to Eldemar and to each other, and how Eldemar being a player impacts their relationships to each other.

Most of these have very fun enemy/frenemy dynamics baked in; I particularly like stories that deal in the ambiguity of having a relationship with someone you’re opposed to that may or may not be as antagonistic as your respective roles would imply. The time-travel ones have the added aspect of one of the characters knowing what may yet come to pass, and the other not; this surely influences the dynamic in a variety of interesting ways. For the kid breaking their parent out, it’s a sort of role reversal (parents are usually the ones looking after children, not the other way around, after all) that I also thing would be a lot of fun!

I love dragons lmao, (almost) any kind of dragons! What are they like? I do prefer that they not be... mindlessly hostile, I suppose; they don't need to be friendly, and they don't need to talk or think like people do, but I would prefer them to not simply treat humans as attack-on-sight, you know?
As for visual design, I have yet to meet a dragon design I didn't like--wings? no wings? two, four, six, more limbs? feel free to get weird here if you want!
These tags give me the impression that the dragons are pretty big, but if you want to make them small instead I'm sure it'll be great!

Friends at the Table (Podcast)
first of all: the only part of Friends at the Table that I have actually listened to is the little Fall of Magic series; as the characters I have requested are from that game I do not expect this to be a problem but i thought it should be said.
secondly... I love this game. I love how weird and ephemeral and overtly magical it is, how that magic manifests in different ways in different places but is still very much present even as it's dying. The sense of melancholy, of an old magical world and a changing new one, pervades the game and it's a tone I sort of fell in love with.
They also describe a lot of very enchanting visuals; if you want to illustrate some of those as a comic you can put the focus wherever you want so long as you include something or someone I requested. I just would like more of this world, and the people who live in it through its changes.

A lot of these characters are ambiguous and old in a way a lot of elements of the story are, and I would love to see something that explores that. Fawn and Caspian have histories that stretch back long years; they both used to be very different people. The Magus and Harp are old, too, but they don’t seem to have changed as much—but still they have Existed in the world as it has lived through this age of magic.
Piccolo, otoh, is young; and he’s the one who continues the most as he was, into the new world, with the magic still present but irrevocably changed… how does that go, for him?
And for the anchors… idk I just thought that was a really cool concept, anything you want to explore with that I’d love to see.
